Dr. James Hromas #340 | 1944 – 2015
Brother Hromas served the Okla. Beta Chapter in many ways while active including as the Chapter President. Jim graduated from OSU with a B.S. in Accounting (1967), MBA (1970) and a PhD in Marketing in 1982. After graduation he continued to serve his fraternity. He was a member of the Okla. Beta Building Corporation from 1970 to 1990 serving as Board President from 1975-85. He also served as Chapter Advisor and was named Phi Delta Theta Samuel V Stone National Advisor of the year. Brother Hromas also received the A.B. Alcott award, the Okla. Beta Chapters most prestigious award.
His contributions to OSU and his community were just as numerous. In 1967 he worked for AMOCO Corp. in Tulsa then moved back to OSU to the office of Fraternity Affairs. He moved to Houston, Texas in 1969 as a management analyst for the NASA Johnson Spacecraft Center. Brother Hromas returned to OSU as Assistant Director of OSU Business Extension in the College of Business and later served as Director. In 1991 Jim became Director of University Extension and Dean in 1994. In 1997 he became Dean of University Extension International and Economic International Studies from 1998 to 2004. He became the Lawrence L. Boger Professor of International Studies at OSU in 2010. Some of Jim’s other awards include, Walton S. Bittner Service Citation for Outstanding Service to UPCEA, OSU Arts & Sciences Center for Africana Studies & Development Appreciation Award, OSU School of International Studies Student Commitment Award, Maestro Honorifico by UPAEP and the Global Vision Award.
Brother Hromas was also very active in the growth and development of Stillwater and OSU. He was a Stillwater Chamber of Commerce board member and Chair in 1994-95, Chair of the Leadership Stillwater Founding Committee, Stillwater United Way Chair, and Stillwater YMCA Board of Directors. He served on the Zayed University, United Arab Emirates, College of Business Sciences International Advisory Council from 1998 – 2004.
Okla. Beta and Phi Delta Theta will miss brother Hromas as will OSU and the City of Stillwater, Oklahoma
